The ninth episode of Youjo Senki, as expected, has Tanya going through some more troubles as she struggles to stay alive without asking God for help.
We learn here that even though Tanya said all those things to Grantz last week, she still pleaded to her superiors that she’ll only kill the combatant enemies and not the unarmed civilians. Well, at least that’s what she claims; it is entirely possible that she only said those things but didn’t actually follow up on any of it.
After the destruction of Arene, the Empire plans on wrapping up the war with the Republicans once and for all. They plan on reducing the enemy HQ to rubble while simultaneously eradicating most of their army. For this plan to come to fruition, the Empire will fallback from the Rhine front to pull in the enemy army to defeat it. Tanya’s battalion will act to delay the enemy onslaught by keeping them busy. And after getting beat up at the border, Tanya will then return to base to prepare for the attack on the enemy HQ. How will they do that? By jumping into the enemy base.
Tanya’s group faces a lot of casualties in their mission to delay the enemy. But this is nothing compared to what Tanya will have to face later on. She, along with some eleven others, will be dropped into the enemy base for operation “Shock and Awe.”
Now how to break through the enemy defense lines? The mad scientist Dr. Schugel has a solution for that. He has designed rockets capable of speeds of up to mach 1.5 to burst through everything and anything. Tanya and eleven others will ride these rockets into the enemy HQ and demolish it to render the enemy forces leaderless and end the war at the Rhine front.
No matter how you look at it, this is Being X at work here. This is the important mission Zettour had in mind for Tanya and obviously the idea came to him as a revelation from God. Schugel’s insane idea is also probably Being X’s fault.
Tanya knows that this is the work of the kami-sama she doesn’t believe in, but she has no choice but to suck it up and push through. Being X continues to get the better of Tanya but she’s not going down without a fight. Even though her plan of living somewhat peacefully has been foiled quite brilliantly, she has to come back alive no matter what.
The fate of the war rests on Tanya and her merry men; whether she succeeds in destroying enemy HQ or not will decide the result of this war. Youjo Senki raises the intensity as it moves closer to its finale.
