Youjo Senki Episode 10: How To Crush A Republic

Youjo Senki Episode 10: How To Crush A Republic

Youjo Senki’s tenth episode has some serious coolness as the Imperial army’s brilliant plan plays out flawlessly.

The government officials want an answer from the army about this retreat plan. They’ve fallen back way too much to the point that their industries are now within firing range for the Republican artillery. Zettour tries to pacify them but then gives up and waits for a report from Tanya’s side regarding the Shock and Awe operation. The mission is top secret and apart from the higher army officers and Tanya, no one knows the plan. The army can’t afford to let the government officials in on the plan because there are chances of things leaking.

Operation Shock and Awe is a resounding success as the enemy supply depot and their communication headquarters are completely destroyed by Tanya’s men, which means that they can move on to the next step of their master war-ending plan: destroying the Republican forces.

The second stage involves blowing up the Republicans’ right flank. One part of the Republican army went off to follow the Imperial army’s retreat while the second part remained at their positions. Thanks to tunnel networks and a whole lot of explosives, half of the Republican army is blown to smithereens. And through this opening the Imperial army leaks out with their tanks to encircle the Republicans who thought they were attacking.

Watch half of the Republican army get blown to pieces in one explosion, and more highlights from this episode

With artillery barrages from the front, tanks and flamethrowers from the back, and no orders coming from HQ, things couldn’t get any worse for the Republicans. To top it all off, Tanya’s little grim reaper squad has also been dispatched. Everything is happening so fast that the Republicans have no time to figure out what on Earth is happening. The Imperial army also needs to be swift in order to wrap things up before reinforcements can arrive to help out their friends in trouble.

And in fact, backup arrives before Tanya can have her victory celebrations. The Entente Alliance is here under the command of the very general whom Tanya supposedly killed. This is Anton’s third encounter with the devil but now he’s stronger than ever. He seemingly has an ability to reinforce bullets with magic. These strengthened bullets have more penetration power, making it easier to break through the magic shields of Tanya’s forces. This little company under Anton Sioux is the Alliance’s answer to Tanya’s squad of doom.

This company has the best chances of defeating the Devil of the Rhine thanks to the powers kami-sama has bestowed upon Anton.

The episode was pretty cool overall with the Imperial plan going flawlessly; the beautiful explosions and overall good animation made things even better (we now imagine the recap episode wasn’t that bad an omen after all). The depiction of the battlefield has always been good here and we get some serious terror on the field with the Republicans being in a panic as it’s only a matter of time before they’re annihilated. Anton’s group has the potential to turn things around but he’s up against Tanya; all this loli has to do is praise the Lord and everyone’s a goner.

Tanya will probably feel some real fear as her members start getting wiped out; the process has already begun with Grantz being the first target. The Alliance, and Anton in particular, will look to wipe out this little squad and its leader because they are probably the most feared beings on the battlefield. After her first encounter in episode two, this is probably the worst situation Tanya could be in.
