Rei continues to explore the mind of fellow shogi players in this new episode of 3-gatsu no Lion; the experience isn’t quite as heartwarming as the last time, but perhaps more revealing.
3-gatsu no Lion has a rare shogi-focused episode… though there’s little actual shogi. The show, once again, centers itself on themes such as the meaning of the game to its player.
After riding on depression for a long time, 3-gatsu no Lion finally gives Rei some happiness and much anticipated progress.
3-gatsu no Lion returns with a superb uninterrupted twenty-four minutes of… Rei talking.
3-gatsu no Lion goes, to the general surprise, with an episode mostly dedicated to none other than shogi; and we gain further insight into the show’s ever more attaching cast along the way.
Far from jumping right into the shogi action, 3-gatsu no Lion goes for an introspective offering. While the choice is fine, it underlines one important aspect: the shogi is no more than an outlet in this show.
The highly anticipated 3-gatsu no Lion has finally come in – and it’s just as good as one could have hoped. Troubled as it is sweet, the spectacle is compelling, if not yet utterly spectacular.
