The ninth episode of Shingeki no Bahamut VIRGIN SOUL has talking, talking and some more talking as Kaiser meets Favaro while Nina meets Jeanne D’Arc.
Favaro had met Nina when he once visited a dragon village. Today, Nina forcibly becomes Favaro’s apprentice so that she can become a bounty hunter too. A few days of training pass by and Favaro hands over Nina a bounty hunter bracelet indicating that she is ready.
How did Favaro wind up in this dungeon though? He doesn’t know either. He claims that some creepy soldiers in black armor took him away, shaved his afro, and started subjecting him to some horrible stuff like having him bungee jump from a cliff and having him chased around by some monsters.
Favaro doesn’t know why Charioce was doing this, but one possibility could be Favaro’s links to the Bahamut incident. Favaro was the main character back then and Charioce probably felt that he could be dangerous, which is why he was being tested.
On the female side of the dungeon, Nina seems to be as jolly as ever. Her only complaint with this prison is that she doesn’t get enough food and she can’t see the sun. Otherwise she’s pretty happy here.
She meets Jeanne D’Arc and it seems like she doesn’t know who she once was. She was probably entranced by her praying in the last episode.
Nina makes friends with Jeanne and tells her about the girl named Mugaro, which surprises Jeanne since last time she checked, Mugaro was a boy. But in any case, Jeanne is relieved to know that Mugaro is still alive, which prompts her to make the decision to break out of jail to go and see him. The other female prisoners support this call and next episode we could be seeing the jail break attempt.
Rita has jumped from the sky like Mary Poppins and is heading towards the dungeon. But what can this zombie do? We’ll have to see. We also see that some high level demons, like Cerberus, are still alive. And some of the female demons work as hostesses to please the humans. But they all probably do hold a great deal of animosity towards the humans, and can be of use to the demon cause when it comes to it.
The episode was filled with talking which made things come off as slightly boring, since Shingeki no Bahamut is always stronger when in action or adventure mode. But it was pretty amusing to see Favaro’s past with Nina.
This was as low-key as an episode can get and it only set up things for an attempted jail break which we’re not even sure if the next episode will have. But episodes like this are valuable since they tell us important stuff, such as Favaro’s imprisonment in this case. But they could have done it in a slightly different way to make things somewhat more exciting.
An okay episode overall which leaves us with a jail break to look forward to, though we’re not sure when that will happen. Things should go back to being exciting next week though because that’s what makes this show worth watching.
