We get an action heavy episode in Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul as Azazel and Nina fight Charioce and his men.
Everything is going perfectly for Charioce as the Rag Demon takes the bait set by the king. Azazel takes a beating and his identity also gets revealed. But before Charioce could kill him, Nina jumps in to help out after getting a hug from the demon. Everything and everyone starts going up in flames but she stops short of burning Kaiser. She does claim to not remember anything after she turns into a dragon, but she may still have some level of control given how she didn’t kill Kaiser immediately.
And this leads Charioce to further suspect Kaiser. The knight does manage to lie his way out after being questioned about his links with the Rag Demon, but Charioce just let it slide even though he caught the lie.
Nina reveals her background to Kaiser as being the daughter of a human and a dragon, which explains her inability to freely transform into a dragon. Bung that she can’t control herself in her dragon state, Azazel still expresses the desire to use her powers to free demonkind from human oppression. His proposal of copulation doesn’t really make much sense here; it’s not like getting into a relationship will stop her heart from going doki-doki upon seeing a hot guy.
As expected of the in-form MAPPA, this episode had great animation during the fight, and there were even good looking moments after that. Their effects are really good, especially what they’re doing with dragon Nina’s fire; those in particular look amazing.
This episode stood out thanks to some spectacular-looking action scenes. Watch the best of them below:
There are two points of interest here: Nina’s background, and Mugaro’s mother. Remember Jeanne D’Arc from the first season? The savior of the empire? The pride of the nation? The woman who was betrayed by her very people and had turned towards the dark side? She reverted back to the good side though and is still alive. And Mugaro is her child. He has some sort of Saint powers given who his mother was, which could explain that nullification power he used to save Azazel back then.
Azazel has now returned to some of his fellow demons who were in hiding all this time; and he’s going to lead them since they have weapons, and are in quite some numbers. Charioce tells Jeanne about his decision to kill her son. Nina is now actively involved in all of this nonsense and Azazel has termed her dragon state a “mini Bahamut” which is somewhat interesting. It is entirely possible that Nina’s dragon village gets involved because of her, given the sheer strength of her kind. She’s only half dragon, and an uncontrollable one at that; think about how strong the full dragons would be.
Kaiser is now even more suspicious after the Red Dragon spared him and especially after he lied to Charioce. The king might still keep him in check for the time being, but he does have quite some reasons to take action against Kaiser.
Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul is slowly and steadily setting things up. The situation should soon heat up a bit with Azazel getting an army, and Charioce showing more determination to eliminate the Rag Demon, Mugaro, and the red dragon.
