Our characters continue their journey towards Latette for the Zero’s Grimoire in this latest episode.
Having lived in a cave up until now, Zero doesn’t know how the outside world works, which was also seen in the last episode when she nonchalantly stripped there and then in the shop. She also doesn’t know how money works as she was paying for some buns with an expensive crystal. And as should be obvious, she doesn’t know about love either.
One relatively unexpected thing is that she doesn’t know who her parents are. She does have the concept of parents, but all she knows is that she was born from someone who lived in the cave with her. She doesn’t know if they’re alive or not; she may have met them or possibly even lived with them in the cave, but she doesn’t remember.
Usually a character in such a situation would have some opinion on whether they would want to see their parents, but Zero doesn’t care about knowing who her parents are because that’s how she was raised. She grew up around books and researched magic and sorcery all her life. She did live with some people, but she probably didn’t have any familial experiences.
The time she’s spending with the Mercenary on their journey is full of many new experiences, and she’s enjoying every moment of it. She wants to spend more time with the Mercenary, eat more good food, visit more towns, spend lots of time talking, see new things. She even offers to teach the Mercenary some magic so that she can become his sensei and then have an excuse to stay with him after this journey ends. The Mercenary doesn’t like the idea of learning magic but he’s probably giving it some thought.
We also see the difference in Zero and the Mercenary’s opinion on visiting new places. Zero has this curiosity given how she lived away from civilization all this time; she wants to experience new places and see new faces. This is all an adventure for her and she wants to make the best of it. The Mercenary, on the other hand, has had many unpleasant experiences with people; he’s hated and feared by many and he’d rather not face these realities again. He is used to it though and even scares people away at times, but you never know how much hatred the next town might have.
Zero is also aware of the fear people have for the beastfallen, but she also knows that this particular beast is a nice person. She tells the Mercenary to tend to the girl’s little injury and while he’s applying some medicine, she uses magic to heal her. She does this so that the kids don’t fear the tiger man, and so that they know that there are some nice beast men out there too; that not all are like that mean one who just pushed her over. The Mercenary also probably gets a “thank you” from a human for the first time in his life, and a token of gratitude to boot.
Watch some heartwarming situations our characters encountered in this latest episode right below:
The group eventually reaches Latette, only to see that the residents there have been torched. And in this world, who gets burned alive? You can probably see it coming: witches. We can’t be sure whether the town experienced a witch-hunt, or if witches burned everyone, but we’d think it’s the former situation here given how there are supposedly many witches in this town. And this obviously comes as a shock to Albus, a resident. Up until now he didn’t hate humans even though his mother was killed in a witch-hunt, he only despised the foolish mindset that every witch is evil. His opinion on humans might change now given how so many people, most close to him, were killed.
This episode of Grimoire of Zero has shown some more character development as the tiger dude and the witch get closer. We get to know some stuff about Zero and the Mercenary. The latter still shows some typical reactions to Zero’s teasing, but he’ll probably get used to her soon and might even tease her back. There is a possible budding romance between the two, but right now, the Mercenary doesn’t feel so, and Zero doesn’t know what love really is. But that may change as they spend more time together.
Our group has now reached the town where the Sorcerers of Zero have their hideout. Once they meet those people the situation in the town will become clear and they’ll probably also find out how the Grimoire of Zero ended in their hands. There are quite some things to look forward to next week.
