Demi-chan wa Kataritai is back on track with this latest display as it goes a bit more into vampires and we witness some great character development.
Last week we only got a glimpse of how much Yuki changed after Takahashi solved her problem. This week see her new form and this is quite the big change.
Remember how Yuki was avoiding everyone? She wouldn’t even come close to anyone let alone have a conversation with them. That Yuki is no more and we’ve got a completely transformed Yuki in her place. She is now open and showing her true self to an extent. The part where she’s trying to hide her liking for gag manga is one of the most hilarious scenes in the show until now. Yuki’s character development is by far the best one in this show. She may not be as fun as Hikari yet, but she’s changed a lot for the better and now it’s all visible. Yuki was a rather boring character before, but now she’s fine.
During this part, in an attempt to change the topic after finding it difficult to hide her true self, Yuki asks about any PG-13 stuff which happened to Sakie because of her succubus nature; though the reason for asking that had more to do with Yuki wanting to get an erotic story or two out of her teacher than anything. We get to learn that succubi awaken to their carnal powers in middle school. Sakie did get teased by guys, but she had a remedy for that. She learned judo so she could beat up anyone who attempted to have some fun with her.
Even though Sakie was better off with her judo skills, not every succubus is the same. Someone trying to have some fun with Sakie shows that there have probably been, and there continues to be, similar cases with other girls. This evidences that even though these demis are not supposed to be dealt with any differently, there will always be cases where these demi humans are treated wrongly for who they are.
This is still the safe way out as Sakie didn’t have any troubles and the show played off the thing as a joke, keeping things quite shallow.
We then get some more info on the blood sucking trait of vampires. Takahashi wants to know whether there is any preference as far as biting goes. The blood sucking part has two sides: sucking blood and biting. The blood is being provided in packets but the biting has to be taken care of by some other means.
Hikari compares the arms to be bitten to food which puts Takahashi deep into thought as Hikari once said that biting someone has some sexual nuances. The sexual part probably depends on who and where the vampire is biting, or whether the biting is for blood sucking or not. It’s probably a combination of both.
This entry of Demi-chan wa Kataritai has been a success largely due to the Kusakabe Yuki development put on display. The second half was pretty neat too as it talked about what vampires are known for the most. Though it would have been really good if they had gone a bit deeper into the succubus issue they just lightly touched (although it really wasn’t the focus of the episode). This has been a recurring problem with this show and it’ll probably stay that way, which is disappointing.
